| It all began in October of 2000... | ||
| I
was on my way home from work, I was tired, I was
frustrated, and I was upset with something that happened
at work (I don't even remember what it was anymore). I
wanted a Volvo S40. That's all that mattered. <FLASHBACK>!!! Earlier that year I was on Ebay trying to pick up a Volvo S60 R/C (Radio Control) car... I learn that the guy selling it is actually a parts guy from Tacoma, WA, out in Fife at a Volvo Dealership. I won the auction, but turned out this bozo had already had it sold (was bought internally so not really his fault). So needless to say I was upset about it but just brushed it aside... oh well... At this time I was finishing up my 1986 Mercury Cougar (modifying it that is). I'd suped this thing up so much (car audio wise) that I am surprised I can hear as well as I can today. Anyway. A month or so later I wanted to add some side marker lamps to the fenders, the Volvo side markers to be exact and I remember this guy telling me he'd give me a good deal on anything I needed since I'd gotten screwed on the R/C car deal. I called him to order the sidemarker lamps and he did indeed give me a great deal! He asked if I could send hime details and info. on how I installed these into my Volvo and I told him I wasn't going to install them on a Volvo, they were going on a Mercury Cougar. |
 I kept in touch with Don Sparks (the Volvo guy from WA who eventually became a great friend!!) over the next few weeks and learned he had a complete set of vinyl graphics for the Volvo S40 (for the car he had previously attempted to build), official vinyl graphics from the British Touring Car Championship Volvo S40 itself. The ideas started going back and forth and before I knew it I found myself in a situation where I could own the car I had been craving for the past three years. |

| He thought I was crazy (and still thinks so I guess). I ordered the lights then we started chatting about Volvo Corporate and how he tried modifying a Volvo S40 to look like the REAL Volvo S40 BTCC Racecar in Europe, SEATCC Asia, ASTCC Australia, and STCC Sweden. At this point I knew this guy was cool, I had, since 1997, been obsessed with the Volvo S40 Racing Car after watching a few races on SpeedVision. I totally loved the S40. After chatting for about an hour I was excited that I had met my first TRUE Volvo enthusiast. | We
struck a deal where I would purchase the Volvo S40 and
build a replica of the Britsh Touring Car Championship
S40 raced in Europe and the parts department of the
dealer that Don worked for would sponsor the car with
graphics and any other help they might be able to give. I
had made up my mind... <END FLASHBACK>!!!!!! |
